I'd challenge anyone who argues that an egg and sausage sandwich isn't the perfect cure for a night of overindulging. It was a Sunday morning ritual off limits for vegans until Good Rebel's egg and sausage sandwich stepped up to the plate.

After spending months developing a soy-based egg, the magic ingredient turned out to be sulfuric black salt, which something Good Rebel sells in grinders at its vegan grocery store.

Vegans adore the sandwich, says Mercedes Featherby, who co-owns the firmly plant-based shop with her partner, Mohsen Akbarali. But most of their customers don't eat a strictly vegan diet, "they just love good food," she says.

"The most common description we hear is also the greatest compliment — the consensus is that the sandwich tastes just like ‘real eggs,'" Featherby says.

And if the idea of eating a cruelty-free hangover cure isn't enough to convince you to try something new, you'll feel even better knowing a portion of all sandwich sales benefits a different grassroots animal welfare charity every month. Most recently, the crew delivered a stockpile of veterinary medicine to a network of animal protectors and vets in Cuba.

A solid sandwich with a side of do-good should be win-win in anyone's books.
