Preparation

10 ounces chocolate, semi-sweet
1 cup butter
4 eggs
2½ cups brown sugar
1¼ cups flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
1½ cup walnut pieces, chopped (you can substitue in your favourite nut)
Pinch of salt

Preheat oven to 325ºF.

Add 1½ to 2 cups of water to a small pot and bring to a simmer. Place a mixing bowl over the pot and add the chocolate and butter. Stir occasionally until melted and smooth.

In another mixing bowl, add the brown sugar and eggs and mix until smooth. Add the flour, baking powder and salt. Stir until combined. Fold in the melted chocolate and the walnut pieces.

Pour the brownie batter into a nine-inch by 13-inch baking pan. Bake on the middle rack for 40 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick, poked into the center of the brownie, comes out clean. Remove the pan from the oven and let cool for at least 20 minutes before serving.
