A new crop of Swim Drink Fish volunteers for 2019 learn and practise water-testing techniques in early June, ahead of the charity’s busy water-monitoring season.
Elise Mackie (top left) is Swim Drink Fish’s Toronto community monitoring coordinator and is responsible for training many of the charity’s volunteers.
This season, they have doubled their capacity for volunteers who will help test for everything from alkalinity, pathogens and contaminants such as E-coli.
In addition to sampling waters, Swim Drink Fish is calling on residents and volunteers to document this year’s historic Lake Ontario water levels by taking and sharing photographs of rising water levels.
The photos will help them track changes over time and can be submitted using their Swim Guide app.
