Sour cherry jam made from Niagara’s Cherry Lane frozen cherries sets after being jarred at Southridge Jam Company. It’s one of four types of jam made with local fruit at the social enterprise, which employs those who have experienced homelessness to help them develop job training and life skills.
According to Southridge Jam Company's director, Brendon Nicholson, above, the company produces more than 7,500 jars a year, using Niagara fruit that may have been wasted due to imperfections or surplus.
Top, volunteers Tiffany Trudel, and Rosanne participate in Southridge Jam Company's Wednesday jam session.
