Dave Neinstein, above, and Jon Persofsky opened Barque Smokehouse in 2011 when Toronto had few places to find an authentic rack of smoked ribs or pulled pork.
Referring to their style as “refined BBQ,” Barque serves a large variety of meats, but also side dishes such as hush puppies, Cuban corn and mac 'n' cheese.
Every table also receives a bucket of smoked popcorn to start their meal.
A half-pound serving of pulled pork, has been smoked, low and slow for 14 hours before the meat is "under pulled," so there's lots of tasty chunks in the mix.
Tumeric-smoked asparagus is served as a seasonal side dish.
The business has grown over the last seven years and so has its customers’ desire to take a piece of Barque home. The restaurant sells barbecue sauces and rubs in take-home bottles.
